The Porsche Boxster was presented in the late 90s and initiated an era of the more affordable Porsche convertibles. “Boxster” is a made-up word from “boxer” (for the flat-six engines used) and “roadster”. The Boxster was basing on a new and innovative concept featuring a finely balanced mid-engine layout, sublime handling and steering characteristics, and the performance of a proven, sophisticated flat-6 engine. Design-wise the Boxster was reinterpreting legendary Porsche classics like the 356 No. 1 Roadster, the 550 Spdyer and the 718 RS60.
The Boxster quickly found many fans and became one of the best-selling cars in the luxury roadster class.
After the very successful history of the Porsche 986 and 987 Boxster, Porsche decided to use the Boxster platform for another attractive entry level model code named the Porsche 987C.
