The ‘S’ versions of the Carrera models feature the newly developed water-cooled 3.8 litre engine providing 355bhp respectively 381bhp (X51 version), an additional 30bhp and 0.2 litre of displacement compared to the standard Carrera. The ‘S’ models can be distinguished from the standard Carrera models by the 4 pipe exhaust system at the rear while the Carrera models have a dual pipe system fitted. Off course, the Carrera S models also wear a distinctive badge with a prominent ‘S’ on their back. Porsche designed a new set of Carrera S 19 inch wheels and included numerous options for the Carrera per default in the Carrera S.
The ‘S’ models performance improved as a result of the extra power achieving 0 to 60mph in 4.8 seconds (4.6 seconds for X51 versions) for the 0-100km/h sprint and a top speed of 293km / h (300km/h with X51) for the Carrera S and 288km/h (296km/H with X51).
The red 997 pictured on the left is a 997 Targa S (note the round dual exhaust pipes which are an exception for the ‘S’ models) featuring the same chassis and engine as the Carrera S and the Carrera 4S but additionally has a large transparent sunroof that can be opened towards the back and makes the perfect combination between a convertible and a coupè.
