
The 993 Carrera RS was built to be a radical lightweight version of the Carrera and concept-wise was the successor of the 964 Carrera RS. It was powered by a normally aspirated 3.8 litre engine with a compression ratio of 11.3:1 providing 300 bhp @ 6500 rpm and 355 Nm @ 5400 rpm.
The exterior was upgraded with a large fixed RS wing, small front flaps and lightweight 3-piece 18 inch speedline aluminium wheels. “Unnecessary” equipment like headlight washers were removed.
The interior underwent a radical diet by removing the rear seats, most of the sound deadening material, replacing the standard seats with some lightweight racing ones and the door cards with a lightweight version.
The Carrera RS was an impressive performer reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.0 s and a top speed of 277km/h.
Porsche also offered more radical versions of the 993, the Carrera RS Club Sport featured additionally a welded-in roll cage and further deletion of unnecessary items like carpets, power windows, AC and radio.
RS CS versions typically are fitted with a larger rear wing and a deeper chin spoiler.
A total of only 1150 RS models were built, many of them were raced and have been subject to accident damage making it incredibly hard to find a decent and straight example. Due to this high demand and the low supply prices for 993 RS are constantly increasing.
