Racing / Competition Clutch Disk for Porsche 944 Turbo’s (951/952)

The OEM SACHS clutch kit for the 951 is a viable solution for the standard 951 without significant performance upgrades which can reach a service life of 200,000+ km’s if treated properly. Some problems have been reported related to the springs that have been implemented in the design compensate load changes, but in general, the OEM clutch kit may be considered as a good and solid product.

If the cars performance is increased to power levels of more than 330bhp or if the car is used as a trackday tool or racing car, this clutch kit may no longer be recommended though as it does not withstand the additional stress.

In this case, the installation of a sport / race clutch system is what most tuners choose as the way to go. The past experience has shown that most sport / race clutch kits admittedly withstand the specified power levels but decrease the driveability of the car to an inacceptable level. If a car still should be driveable on the road without too many problems, a race clutch is not the best option to choose.

Alternatively there is the possibility to install the clutch disk of the first generation 911 turbo (930). This combination transmits more power but will also start to slip soon.

DEUTSCH NINE therefore has made a search for the best solution bearing these issues and requirements in mind and has found a good compromise consisting of proven OEM components and optimized Performance parts. The clutch disk presented here is a 4-puck sport clutch disk which may be combined with the OEM pressure plate and release bearing (bolt-in upgrade, no modifications required).

This kit is capable of transmitting 800bhp and 800Nm’s without slipping, so there is room for all thinkable performance upgrades. The clutch disk features a simple and very robust design and is manufactured in very high quality. The springs implemented in the OEM design have been removed. The RS clutch disk weighs 970g and therewith is 1230g lighter than the OEM disk (ca. 2200g)

The installation of this clutch disk admittedly reduces the cars driveability but by far not as much as the installation of a race clutch providing the same specifications. The car still is driveable on the road if clutch engagement is performed a bit more sensitively.

Consequently this clutch disk is a very good compromise between performance and driveability and may be recommend to all 951 drivers willing to upgrade their car but not driving it on the track only.
