Introduction
The Porsche 968 has become known to be a legend of the track due to its near perfect 50/50 weight distribution associated with the use of the famous and heavily underestimated Porsche transaxle setup.
With the Transaxle models now being affordable on the used car market and backed up by a 100% OEM parts supply provided by Porsche, the 924, 944, 951, 944 S2 and 968 are now globally considered by many as the track day car of choice which is also backed up by various ‘one make’ race series accommodating these cars.
Most novice track day users prefer to start tweaking the cars handling by fitting up-rated suspension systems and adjustable top mount camber plates then shortly followed by the removal of as much unneeded weight from inside the car as possible.
Whereby a racer or serious track day enthusiast will opt for a complete interior strip, most prefer to simply remove the extremely heavy and usueless rear seat and replace the front seats with lightweight aftermarket bucket seats.
Porsche recognised this requirement when they introduced the Porsche 968 CS (Club Sport) which was effectively a lightened and partially stripped version of the 968 and 968 Sport. The first thing that Porsche chose to do was drop the rear seats using a moulded carpet covered with fibre board which sat in place of the rear seats, glued to the cars floor pan. The Porsche 968 CS proved to be extremely popular in the UK and Europe but was never shipped to the US and Canadian markets.
The DEUTSCH NINE rear seat delete
We purchased an original 968 CS rear seat delete from Porsche to try and retro-fit it into our Porsche 944 Turbo (951/952). We noticed that the OEM 968 rear seat delete is not a bolt-in upgrade for other Transaxle models. This lead us to develop an upgrade part which would perfectly fit all Porsche models 924, 944, 951/952, S2 and 968 cars alike. The end result is a product which offers perfect fitment due to various factors mainly being that the carpet side and rear edge shapes have been designed different by us.
We have developped a product which is better constructed, lighter and more perfectly fitting by using the OEM rear seat delete as a basis to manufacture an FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) reinforcing element which is then press fitted with a matching OEM style carpet material. This multi-component design offers best fitting characteristics and results in a very high-quality product making it very popular among Transaxle enthusiasts
Currently our Porsche rear seat delete is only available in black.
The finished product weighs only 2.6kg resulting in a saving of approximately 10kg over the factory rear seat.
This product is also an excellent addition for those wanting to install a rear harness bar for the use of 4,5 or 6 point harnesses combined with bucket/sports seats.
