Benjamin Lukas Loertscher – Company Director

Which little or “grown up” child has never dreamed of possessing his own Porsche?

My automobile preferences reach back to my early childhood: A Porsche always has been something very special to me. Maybe this was caused by my playing with miniature models or the first encounters on the streets; I was fascinated by the shape, acoustics and the quality of these cars that we all know and love.

Originally, Transaxle models had never really drawn my attention due to their rather dated appearance in styling. This suddenly changed when a 951 entered the neighbourhood. The car was painted ‘guards red’ and sitting on polished and colour-matched BBS wheels.

My fascination for Porsche completed its breakthrough after having had a ride in the passenger seat of 964 Carrera RS 3.8 Club Sport.

Intermediate I was getting more and more interested in aviation, another childhood dream – and invested a lot of time and energy to reach my ultimate goal of becoming a fighter pilot in the Swiss Air Force. My ambitions were great, I passed the selection process, got the entire training for the private pilot licence for free and in the end was selected as one of two Swiss nationals to participate in an international exchange for young pilots with the Belgian Air Force. It was exciting to fly a plane “solo” before even being allowed to drive a car legally. The selection process also pointed out my own limits which was a very worth while experience. However, in the end I did not sign up with the Swiss Air Force as this would have meant being bound for twelve years, in addition to this the aviation industry was continually deteriorating.

Civil aviation was not exciting enough any longer so I was heading for other horizons both in a professional and a hobby perspective. I started to study law and in parallel to that working for a Swiss bank, what concerns hobbies I ran across a fateful coincidence:

A decent red Porsche 951 was for sale. It did not take long until I bought the car. Owning it, I quickly started to get more and more interested in Transaxle models. By reading some literature and getting in touch with other enthusiasts I quickly learned more about the nature of Transaxle models, especially the 951 and came to the conclusion that the 951 was one of the most underrated sports cars of its time, offering lots of optimization potential. Therefore I buried the thought of owning the 951 for some time and then moving on to a 911 turbo. Instead, I started to optimize the 951 both regarding styling and performance which still is an ongoing process.

In the meantime, thanks to a lot of good contacts, I had the opportunity to drive the majority of the Porsche models that I’m interested in. Especially the 930, 964 Carrera RS, 965 Turbo 3.6, 993 Turbo S really fascinated me. The acoustics and the character of a 930 featuring a stainless steel sports exhaust system is definitely unique in its kind, the power development of a modified 965 Turbo 3.6 with its large mono-turbo very old-school and impressive and also the bivalent character of a 993 Turbo S transforming from the daily-driveable Dr. Jekyll to the raw power delivering Mr. Hyde has left a remaining impression.

Altogether I really love the 911’s regarding their shape, acoustics and the driving on public roads. The other side of the coin is that I don’t like the seating position, the ergonomics and the tail-heavy setup of the 911.

This is where the 951 and 968 models score: The seating position, the steering wheel and the gear knob are exactly where they should be and with the pop-up headlights up the car may be driven very precisely and fast. The car responds to you like only a few cars do and really begs you to go faster while my impression of 911’s is the opposite. The 951 to me feels like a custom tailored suit, while most 911’s are to me like a high-value bomber or leather jacket. On top of that, the 951 also offers a perfect weight distribution and serious upgrade potential for suspension, brakes and engine performance.

These attributes led me to the decision to revise and optimize my 951 and do a complete “turbo RS” conversion which will be documented here on this website. The conversion will also feature a lot of our own tried and tested DEUTSCH NINE parts. Due to my preference for quality and functionality you can be sure that only components meeting the highest standards both conceptional and functional will find their way into my project car and onto this website.

I’m convinced that the parts developed and offered by DEUTSCH NINE will provide pleasure, satisfaction and for those competition minded also success to many other enthusiasts all around the world. No matter if using our parts or not I wish every enthusiast having read this brief introduction much fun with our hobby and passion!
